Welcome to Sunday Reset, where we share how we're unwinding and what we have planned for the week ahead. This time, our editor Julia is thinking about Friendsgiving.
I'm not quite sure when Friendsgiving became the event of November, but over the last few years, I've fully bought in. It's the perfect excuse to plan a dinner, make it a potluck (so no one gets stuck doing all the cooking), and celebrate with friends you might not see during the holidays.
Since then, I've learned that the best Friendsgivings are all about creativity, so I polled a few coworkers to see what they like to bring. My personal favorites are homemade rolls and brown butter–sage mashed potatoes.
"Pumpkin and chocolate cake—you can't go wrong." Similarly, this bread pudding.
"The most successful Friendsgivings I've been to are when someone brings fried chicken instead of turkey. It's always the unexpected hit of the night."
"Butternut squash mac and cheese—it's a cozy twist on a classic."
And from our Hotline resident Justin: "Air-fryer hot dog pinecones." (Basically a BBQ version of pigs in a blanket—and now I can't stop thinking about them.)
If you're looking for more ideas, here's what I'd recommend. Plus, did you know if you boil down apple cider for long enough you can get a great cocktail syrup?
