| A special edition today—free for all subscribers—because I have an important update! After 16 years at Food52, the company I co-founded and ran with Merrill Stubbs, it’s time to take my April Fool’s parodies, fussing over office lighting, cooking know-how, and love for homeware manufacturing to future ventures. I’m eager to build new things! This also means I’ll be stepping away from Schoolhouse and Dansk, which we acquired while I was running Food52. As I figure out what’s next for me professionally, and continue to shape the next phase of my life—big stuff!—I’ll be seeking input and sharing updates on both. And, of course, I’ll be dispensing my usual array of design, travel, and food intel, alongside my home renovation progress. For now, Homeward is my new home and it’s how I’m making a living—so I hope you’ll consider upgrading to paid, if you haven’t already (I lowered my annual subscription rate to celebrate my newfound freedom!). Either way, I really appreciate you being here and sharing my love for the pleasures of home. Yours in new chapters, Amanda First there was this classic parody of gourd season. And now ramps have earned their own send up: “Known for having the highest profit margin for sellers and the lowest return on investment (ROI) for buyers of any vegetation known to mankind, ramps are a wonderful addition to all kinds of performative food-oriented situations.” I believe my life will finally be complete if I could own this cheese basket on wheels. Do you feel me? I highly recommend subscribing to Leslie Stephens, who was a Food52 editor many moons ago and has since gone on to create Morning Person, an enormously successful Substack about her life and recommendations. After purchasing her first home, she created this handy Home Buying Checklist. In case you have home-related questions (What height to hang art? How to install a pendant?), Schoolhouse just launched Switchboard, a hotline for all your domestic queries. Well, not all, but the home design ones. Send an email to Switchboard@Schoolhouse.com or dm them on Instagram @shswitchboard.
