| | We’re year-round grillers, but June marks the beginning of grilling’s high season. To set you up, we scoured our archives for 52 of our best recipes, so you can stand over hot coals, cold beer in hand, knowing we have your back.
We’ve also got you covered on grilling gear. I tend to favor classic, walnut-handled tools, like the ones from Lamson. They aren’t flashy, but they’re incredibly well made and will still be in style 30 years from now. | | | | | | | | | Another essential IMO is this Victoria cast-iron pizza pan, made by a third-generation family business in Colombia. The raised handles make it easy to get it on and off of your grill, and the cast iron gets super hot—and stays that way. The pan is excellent for pizza, but can double as a plancha or griddle. Use it on your grill for anything you don’t want slipping between grates, in your pizza oven, or on your stovetop for things like pancakes. | | Other Food52 Doings: | | | | | | | Our editors *love* a hot take, and our most recent from a former line cook-turned-food writer makes the case for pre-ground black pepper. I was skeptical, but read on!

Confession: I’m a renovation fanatic. This week marks 21 years that my family has lived in our apartment in Brooklyn, and 21 years of renovating it. I believe in evolution and renewal, as you’ll see here. | | Products I'm Into: | | | | | | | | | My L.A. Diary: | I was in Los Angeles for work last week and used it as an excuse to check out some home stores and places to eat. The highlights: | | | | | - Kneeland Co. Rarities: maximal textiles and tableware from small makers around the world.
- Suay Sew Shop: They create clothes and home textiles using post-consumer clothing and deadstock. In 2019, they upcycled 250,000 pounds of garments.
- +COOP: home decor curated by real estate maven Jenna Cooper.
- Garde: exquisite furnishings and home goods.
- Nickey Kehoe: a home store by the interior design duo, Todd Nickey and Amy Kehoe.
- Rolling Greens: all things garden, with some stylish home goods thrown in.
| | | | | | - Felix Trattoria: If I lived in L.A., I’d go once a week for the focaccia and the pappardelle with duck ragu.
- Alta: Make sure you order the fried chicken with hot sauce, black-eyed pea fritters, cornbread with honey butter, and a side of red beans and rice; oh, and pick up a bottle of the smoked oil on your way out!
- Waxpaper: Enjoy the Ira Glass sandwich for heaps of crunchy sprouts, garlic aioli, cucumbers, and cheddar on a seeded sourdough wheat.
- Demitasse: Get the siphon coffee or the Kyoto iced coffee.
- Tartine: People start lining up before 8:00 a.m. at the Santa Monica location, which is outfitted in a former church. I gave alms to the egg sandwich.
