A Year in Review No Images? Click here The Best of Everything in 2018 We rounded up our favorite photos, features, videos, podcast episodes, and more. It's all right here. We hope you enjoyed the year as much as we did! No Serious Eats recipe or story would be complete without photos. They help us understand just how thick our ramen noodles should be, and decide what kind of crust we're going for on our fried chicken (craggy, always craggy). But our favorite photos aren't just helpful. They're bright, eye-grabbing, and make our mouths water. We put out a lot of videos this year, but the ones we've chosen to highlight are our personal favorites, the ones we cooked from and watched the most. These videos made us hungry, made us laugh, and helped us become better cooks. We learned how to roll out flaky and crisp paratha, cook dosa batter, emulsify the perfect sauce for pasta alla gricia, and more. For most of our readers, the feature stories on Serious Eats aren't the biggest draw—some who know us strictly for our recipes probably don't even realize we publish anything else. But when we looked back at all the features we produced this year, we were struck by both their number and their variety, and it was gratifying (especially for the feature editors among us!) to watch as the whole staff pored over the list and everyone rushed to call dibs on their favorites. After great deliberation, Ed chose five Special Sauce episodes that he thinks exemplify the best audio storytelling we do at Serious Eats. 2018 was a big year for Daniel. His newborn became a tiny tot—and he produced some stellar recipes. Here are a few of his top picks. |
