We're working to re-launch Dansk , the brand founded by Ted and Martha Nierenberg in 1954, which we acquired in 2021. Through the tail end of Covid, it was a work in progress and there was some business nonsense mixed in, but we're now gearing up to launch new products by exceptional designers and bring back some of its most iconic designs (you've seen and loved Købenstyle , but wait until you see what else is in store!). Dansk's longtime mantra is: Soul, not surface. Design, not decoration. Humanity, not machinery. Creativity, not conformity. We're using this as our guiding light. Our relationship with the original designers and their families has been a critical part of this. The other week when I was in Germany, I stopped over in Copenhagen so I could visit Henriette Quistgaard, the daughter of Jens Quistgaard, Dansk's partner and principal designer during its heyday in the 1960s and 1970s. She lives in her dad's farmhouse near the southern coast, surrounded by his extraordinary work. What struck me is that while his mid-century designs still seem modern, they also fit so well with the old furnishings and centuries-old structure of the house. |

Where to stay in Copenhagen If you don't mind not having reception or a concierge in the evenings, Audo Residence is a cozy and stylish perch with an all-day cafe and home store in the lobby. What to see
If you get to Copenhagen this year and are as nutty about tableware as we are, go see "Little Table, Cover Thyself!" at the Danish Design Museum. They've set a long table displaying the evolution of European tableware from the Renaissance to today. Keep an eye out for a couple of Dansk pieces in the mid-century era.
